BluesAintNothingBookCoverSome people are uncomfortable verbally expressing their appreciation and affection simply and directly to the person they care about. Instead, they either assume that the other person should know how they feel, or they tell a third party how wonderful it is to have their beloved in their lives, and hope that the message will get back to them.

Other examples of misguided messages can be seen when parents boast to friends about how proud they are of their children, but never tell the children directly how pleased they are. Or when supervisors find it easier to tell employees that they should be doing as well as some others without ever extending the accolade to the ones who earned it.
