We all have thoughts and experience feelings that we’ve been taught are not on the approved list. In the Bible the list appears as the Ten Commandments. These temptations must be universal, or it wouldn’t have been necessary to elevate these cautions to rules laid down by God.
But the inner life of our imaginations is not only private territory- it is also God-given. When we allow ourselves to envision the unthinkable and to say the unspeakable, we are only thinking and saying what most people keep to themselves.
We solitary pilgrims pursue a spiral path from the outer edge of our imagination to the interior of our soul.
