The image of a woman stuns me –<\/p>\n
My fiver year old daughter\u2019s flower,<\/p>\n
Left in green thin wrap to wilt<\/p>\n
Now stuck through the water<\/p>\n
In the giant plastic glass<\/p>\n
I keep by my sink, opening,<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Vibrant, in the incandescent light<\/p>\n
As I brush my teeth and tongue<\/p>\n
Spitting dreams one instant, then<\/p>\n
Studying tooth stain and belly<\/p>\n
Overlapping the new day<\/p>\n
And my naked soul diffused.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
A pink carnation spreads across the bath<\/p>\n
As much aware of me as the effort<\/p>\n
Needed to crush the moist petals<\/p>\n
Isolates intent from joy<\/p>\n
And fragile insights blossom<\/p>\n
Into observation nearly lost.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Now, I delight; though, only now<\/p>\n
A giant plastic glass filled<\/p>\n
Sustains a few moments: embellishes<\/p>\n
Simple life almost lost unnoticed<\/p>\n
In the crisp and folded expectations<\/p>\n
Of foregone conclusions.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Her mother stands naked too, her hand<\/p>\n
Touching her soft skin wilting softer<\/p>\n
And her soft breasts, softer still – and desire<\/p>\n
Crumbles unnoticed in a delicate heap –<\/p>\n
Yet an unearthed Flower sucks the air and<\/p>\n
Blooms easily through its final hours.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
It somehow makes sense that<\/p>\n
My daughter\u2019s flower blooms<\/p>\n
While the image of a woman stuns me,<\/p>\n
And the water and light infuse my soul<\/p>\n
Tightly aware that confounded and confused<\/p>\n
I comfort her like a stem.<\/p>\n
