By one hand the knife made ready,<\/span>
\n By the other flips a fish,<\/span>
\n Suddenly the two are steady<\/span>
\n In the rhythm of the slish.<\/span><\/h4>\n

And worthy men and worthy craft<\/span>
\n Rebuke the jarring waves that lash<\/span>
\n Each man starboard, port and aft,<\/span>
\n With bitter wet and violent crash.<\/span><\/h4>\n

And carcass after carcass tossed<\/span>
\n Lifeless to the bloody hold<\/span>
\n Shimmers, though the light is lost,<\/span>
\n And the dreary day grows cold.<\/span><\/h4>\n

And vagrants in the troller\u2019s wake<\/span>
\n Bobbing back atop the swells,<\/span>
\n Flutter up, then swoop to take<\/span>
\n The sacrament of fish entrails.<\/span><\/h4>\n

Here, wind and rain and haze dilute.<\/span>
\n Yellow, green, red, brown converge.<\/span>
\n And the gray is absolute,<\/span>
\n And time and mind and sense diverge.<\/span><\/h4>\n

Moments roll as waves uncounted.<\/span>
\n Thoughts are scattered as debris<\/span>
\n On pebbles of perception rounded<\/span>
\n By the endless surge of sea.<\/span><\/h4>\n

And rivers rise and passion flows<\/span>
\n Inward channeled by belief.<\/span>
\n Images drift by then go<\/span>
\n To certainty, or doubt so brief.<\/span><\/h4>\n

And certain as the sand concedes<\/span>
\n To the wash and swirl and spray<\/span>
\n So the tide and time recede<\/span>
\n Shaping yet another day.<\/span><\/h4>\n
