For one thing, we need to listen attentively to others around us to learn who we are that they aren\u2019t. And we must listen for the echoes from the depths of our own souls, the resonant vibrations that give voice to our authentic, God-given self, our own divine spark, our connection with the Higher Power.<\/p>\n

Listening is not the only thing we have to do, but it very well may be the most difficult. A Zen story tells of a master instructing three young students to spend time in total silence. \u201cYou may not speak a word,\u201d he said, \u201cfrom this moment on.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI shall not speak at all,\u201d said the first.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow stupid! Why did you talk?\u201d asked the second.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am the only one who hasn\u2019t spoken,\u201d said the third.<\/p>\n
