\"BluesAintNothingBookCover\"<\/a>Some people seem to believe that they make something special of themselves by concentrating on matters so esoteric that very few others find what they have to say of interest . They pride themselves on not seeing popular movies, only foreign films, not reading best-selling books, only avant-garde fiction, and doing nothing so plebeian as watching television. They see themselves as too creative to speak the way other people do or to attend to everyday matters with which we all have to deal.<\/p>\n

Hoping to be celebrated as original thinkers, frequently these self-appointed specialists end up as oddballs who bore audiences with their pedantry. Their dedication to humankind is belied by their insensitivity to the needs of individual people in their lives. They deceive themselves by imagining that their own greatness is implied in their unusual special interests.<\/p>\n

Ironically, as Elbert Hubbard wrote, \u201cLittle minds are interested in the extraordinary; great minds in the commonplace.\u201d<\/p>\n
